Shoot - Backs, Form and silhouette

There wasn't a set edification as to why I decided to photograph these models other than to have a shoot and time for myself and my camera. Something I could find meaning to in the aftermath isn't precisely breathtaking or profound, just something I wanted to explore, to feel about. I acknowledge the lack of forethought placed within the final pieces from the shoot and have come to terms with my complacency in previous works; after all, I came here to become more than I was as an artist, hopefully as a person. There's something bittersweet about the knowledge that you had, in fact, become complacent; confidence you may have once found in work you had displayed before now fills you with dread, retreading old footprints. The tricky bit about jumping off a cliff into water is that once you do it, do it again. It stops being scary, and the thrill dies, but the fear of jumping off a slightly taller height confines you to that rock, that piste. Slowly, I'm beginning to grieve the older forms my work has taken, and in time, I will jump into that same water from a higher summit.

initially with this specific piece I wanted to replicate a similar essence to palladium printing, albeit with a more saturated appearance especially with the areas which the light touches. I was going for a platinum appearance removing the qualities of skin and its texture, adding these imperfections and grain effect created by the over processing. I'm a fan of foreign features, with my previous work removing aspects of my humanity by binding my face while still keeping my silhouette the same, making the subject recognisable to what it was just creating the observer's inner dialogue deciding on "who".

I've always had a curiosity with the exploration of film and capturing it for the first time did prove to be a simple task, still I continued to edit it with my previous style of working and chose to deal in both over saturation and corruption as well as underexposure which I find slightly more appealing due to its more Noir esque appearance, an attraction to the darker side of photography, aesthetically.

With these two duplicates I wanted to alter my subject's form once again removing elements of reality from the image with the extreme manipulation of the shadows. Specifically with the second image I felt attracted the effect their spine had when reducing the intensity of the shadow which I seen while editing the first one. I wanted to pursue the effect of their figure being hollow as a personal choice to (albeit poorly) elude to the idea that the subject was hollow or being consumed by the negative space around them.
